Shook: The Ground-Breaking Ministry of Jesus

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

My prayerful greetings to you in the Lord. “Groundbreaking” - what a wonderful word this is – something important; a new way of doing and thinking that is driven with energy and promise; something that is full of hope. In every way this is our Gospel calling.

The theme for the 2020 Conference for Catholic Charismatic Renewal, ‘SHOOK: the groundbreaking ministry of Jesus’ speaks to that Gospel reality of hope and promise that we are called to as disciples in Christ Jesus. In doing so it also speaks to the living ministry that is Jesus that forever challenges and changes us. This is no ‘comfortable’ faith life that we are called to share, but a vibrant and creative way of being that breaks ground, and should be breaking ground, daily.

Our Holy Father has said that “The Christian mission has only one focus: to change individual’s lives so they can change the world.” If we are not being challenged to seek new ways to bring the Good News to the world, then we are not keeping our hearts and minds open to our missionary calling. When the ground stops breaking and change stops happening, our faith stops growing, and we cease to bring forth change in others.

As members of Catholic Charismatic Renewal, you know what is possible when lives are filled with the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit. May all present at the Conference, and those you go on to encounter experience the energy and life of Jesus’ living ministry to regenerate us as a people of God.

With every grace and blessing, I remain,

Yours sincerely in Christ Jesus,

Most Rev Peter A Comensoli
Archbishop of Melbourne
